I’m Chris Dwan. I focus on data and computing strategies for the life sciences, biotechnology, and genomics.
Over the last 20 years, I’ve worked on some of the most challenging large-scale problems in my field. My experience includes leadership roles at both the New York Genome Center and at the Broad Institute, as well as nearly a decade with BioTeam. Since going independent in early 2017, I have served startups in diagnostics and therapeutics, pharmaceuticals, hospital systems, universities, and even worked with NASA.
Part of the reason that I choose an independent path is my desire to always go where the fires are hottest. I want to seek out the most interesting problems and the places where I can have the greatest impact. Genomic technologies are beginning to translate into therapies. They are, ever so slowly, changing the way we provide clinical care. Over time, this will lead to more precise, personalized treatment plans – which really ought to lead to longer, healthier lives and also to lower overall medical spending. We’re not there yet. I want to help the whole industry move faster.
My consulting practice combines a broad technical expertise with relentless focus. My skills in problem solving and communication have been honed through more than 20 years working at the intersection of computing, data, and science. My goal as an engineer and a leader is to build systems and teams that will outlast and exceed me.
Whether you are building a genome center or founding a startup, my experience and perspective might provide a critical boost. I do jobs as small as a couple of hours on the phone and as large as multi-year strategy and architecture engagements.

It is recognized that DND/CAF teleworkers want the option to connect personal equipment to their portable DWAN computer, either for productivity and/or ergonomics reasons. Generally, this is prohibited however, there are some low risk exceptions. Namely:
- Personal Monitor connecting via VGA, HDMI, DVI, or DisplayPort. A television, including a Smart TV or projector, would also be considered a monitor.
- Personal keyboard and mouse connecting via USB cable.
- Personal RF dongle for presentation (“clicker”).
- Personal headphones and speakerphones connecting via 3.5mm audio connector

Before connecting, users must verify that the equipment is in good condition, unaltered and from a reputable manufacturer. It should be noted that personal devices that are not supported by the DND/CAF service desks and may not function appropriately when connected.
Teleworkers are also reminded that the connection of any other personal equipment , including personal storage devices, smart phones, tablets, printers, faxes, and cameras, to a DWAN computer/laptop, is strictly prohibited.
